| Services: | I offer counselling/psychotherapy to individuals, couples and groups. I supervise counsellors and therapists in private practice, GP surgeries, colleges and universities. |
| Training: | My main qualification is in Gestalt psychotherapy, and I have additional training with Richard Erskine of the Institute for Integrative Psychotherapy, New York, and in Humanistic Person-Centred psychotherapy. |
| How I work: | I work with the client jointly to make a space where they can get in touch with the dissatisfaction or pain that brings them to therapy. Together we work out the ways they have learned to not get their needs satisfied, encouraging them then to experiment with new and more satisfying ways of living. We all have within us the potential to grow. |
| Experiece: | I am a qualified mental health specialist in the NHS, working with people who are in psychiatric crisis. I have worked in the NHS for nineteen years. I have sixteen years' experience in private practice working with individuals, couples and groups. I have taught counselling at diploma level as Senior Tutor, and I have facilitated many workshops in the field of human growth and development. In addition I see clients for the world's leading supplier of EAP (Employee Assistance Programme)counselling, supporting employees from many large organisations with a very wide range of problems. |
| Approach: | In counselling/psychotherapy, my approach is mainly Gestalt but it is influenced by Integrative Psychotherapy and Humanistic Person-Centred Psychotherapy. In supervision:- Supervision is a place where the counsellor/therapist can bring not only technical questions, but can also bring their own vulnerabilities and the emotional impact of their work. In the model of supervision I work to, working with the therapist's response to the client is at least as important as working on interventions, treatment planning, theory and other technical questions. |
| Who I see: | I see people who have problems with anxiety and depression, people suffering the effects of abuse. I see those with relationship problems, and the effects of stress. Those who are bereaved. People who are frequently angry or sad, or confused, or lonely. People who feel they have lost their way. People who feel that the more they try to change, the more they stay the same. People who are being bullied, people going through separation and divorce, people harmed by their experiences in the education system or their work organisation. Anyone hurt by what has been done to them. Anyone who notices they have ways of making sure their needs are not met. I have a particular interest in working with people from health and social care services, and I practise therapeutic hypnosis as well as counselling and psychotherapy. I am especially interested in working with the memories the body holds. If you don't see your problem listed here, please feel free to call and find out whether therapy could help you. There will be no obligation. |
